Prayer flags
Prayer flags
String of five woven cotton prayer flags with printed design on white cord. One flag of each colour - red, blue, green, yellow, white. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. If the flags ever fade in colour, this means that the prayers were carried by the breeze leaving positive spiritual vibrations in their wake. Each colour of the prayer flag represents separate elements: White symbolises air Red is fire Green is water Yellow is earth Blue is wind They can also represent directions – North, South, East, West and Center. It is also bad luck to ever put them on the ground, they must always be hung up high to get the biggest spiritual benefit from them.
